In The Vanishing of Ethan Carter you play Paul Prospero a physic/supernatural detective. He has the powers to gather evidence, and then visually piece together what happened. A really awesome concept, and if you loved games like Physic Detective that was on the 3DO, or Soul Suspect a rather recent game I can see you getting into this. Paul Prospero which is controlled by you is in search of a missing child Ethan Carter in Red Creek Valley.
The first thing that is almost impossible to miss starting out, is how beautiful this game is. I'd have to say the most beautiful Indie I've seen yet. I found myself snapping tons of screenshots to use as Wallpapers on my Xbox One X. It looks amazing for recent AAA games really. There are also tons of visual control options as well. It certainly doesn't look like a game that is several years old. This was the first game I had played when I purchased my Nvidia Shield, and it looked amazing on there as well.
The story is what you notice next. The story is told with great voice acting narration. All of the characters are voiced well. The story really grabs your attention and draws you in. It is rather short though. First play through I say it takes you about 3 hours, but once you know everything you can knock it out in under a hour and a half. Doesn't really encourage much play through unless you missed an achievement, or didn't finish the easter egg. I can see you playing it again though in free roam to show off your 4K tv or the games graphics. Beautiful graphics and scenery might be a under statement.
The sounds and music all fit well into the story and visuals. You really feel like your there, and you enjoy the sounds of the water flowing, and your really pulled in. You really want to find this kid, but you don't want to leave the beautiful country. I really recommend giving this game a play if you enjoy mysteries, beautiful scenery, or just want to be part of a well written story. There isn't ton of action you perform, its mostly a story driven walking simulator, but it is a well done one. Played a few good one of these lately with one of my favorites this year being What Remains of Edith Finch. So check it out , and let me know what you think.

Overall 8.2 One of the most beautiful games I ever played visually. If that was the only reason to play this game it would still be worth it, but The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is much more than just it's beautiful environments. It is a really well developed gem.
