Arcade Islands is pretty much 33 games in one. There is really something for everyone. Pretty much every arcade classic you know and love is impersonated here. Classics like Missile Command, Luxor, Asteroids, Breakout, PONG, Snake, Memory, Kaboom, and there area ton of super original ideas as well. So there really is something for everyone, and even better it's 4 player coop so you can enjoy with friends and family. You can battle it out to see who is best, and you can also battle it out online with online leaderboards showing the best in the world.
The game is made up of several islands with a ton of mini arcade games on them. Each game you can collect 1 to 3 stars, and other islands require a certain amount of stars to open up. I know you hear that, and think I'm going to struggle to open new content but you won't. They don't take many stars to unlock, and getting the stars is fairly easy. That doesn't mean there isn't a challenge though, getting the 3 stars can really test you. 3 stars aren't required though to advance, but good for bragging rights, and Achievement purposes. There are some really fun hidden achievements on this as well. I had a blast figuring them out, and collecting them.
The look of the game is very current even though the concept of the games are very classic. Looks just like a lot of modern Console and PC marketplace titles. Bright colors and high detailed environments. The sounds and music are also very modern and enjoyable. It looks and sounds very high quality arcade so even when split screening the details still show, and our visible to the multiple players. The controls are really spot on as well, and I had no issues at all with frame rates or glitches. It ran perfectly and was a blast to play. I finished the game, but I've only just got started because I attend to go back to these over and over alone, and with friends. It's just one of those games where you want to challenge yourself and improve on your previous best. You also want to play it with more and more people as well. Makes for a really fun party game in my opinion.
So who would I recommend Arcade Islands to? Just about anyone. It is fun for all ages, and challenging as well. It's good for people who entertain large amounts of company or have large families. It is also good for fans of retro arcade games, and enjoy challenging themselves to beat their previous high scores. So when I say it's for most everyone, you probably fit into this...
Pros: Tons of different styles of games
Fun for friends and family Coop
Loaded with replay ability and unlockables
Looks and sounds modern with classic feel
Achievements are a blast
Cons: No Online Coop or VS yet.
Overall: 8.4 A game that really speaks to just about everyone, and will make a spot in your families gaming rotation for a very , very long time.
