Metropolis: Lux Obscura is a very unique game that brings to life the days of a Mafia ruled New York, and the fun of doing tetris style puzzles. Right from the start screen you know your in for a treat when you see the beautiful art style of this title. It is just really pleasing to the eyes, and draws you in. The look, feel, and sounds all remind you of the classic film "Sin City" from the Villains, the beautiful women, to the gritty protagonists. The story is just as good as well. It gives you tons of choices to choose from that lead to four very different endings for your character. They all are very well written, and performed by some very talented voice actors. Even if your not into doing puzzle games I can see you still trying to finish it just to see how it all plays out. I can also see you really wanting to see more of the comic style art as well. Tons of naked ladies i must warn though, certainly for a mature audience is this one. I don't mind that at all either. I love how they made a game for adults full of action like manly type goodness.
The puzzles are not easy. They consist of trying to match 3 of the same type of actions on a puzzle board. Like putting three fists together to punch. Three guns to shoot or three boots to kick. They all have a different level of attack, and that can be raised by perks you unlock after defeating each boss. There are also health kits to put together for health as well as a badge you don't want to get because it takes health away. Some of them get really hard as enemies get much higher health bars, get stronger attacks, or even get multiple attackers in a row. They are pretty fair though, it may take several tries, but you will sooner or later be rewarded with a defeat. That really sums up everything with the puzzle part of the game, it is really simple to learn especially after the tutorial section.
I really enjoyed this as a whole, and had very little complaints with it. There was more things to love about it, then to not like about it. I loved the art style and beautiful women. I loved the voice acting, and music. I loved the story, and all the different directions you could take it. I wasn't really blown away with the puzzle aspect, but still had fun doing them, and the real challenge they delivered. It was fun struggling at times with certain enemies, and trying different techniques the next bout. I really enjoyed it all as a whole. It runs pretty well, I did however find it freezing on me a few times, but the developer was really focused on fixing the issue, and communicated well with me trying to find out about the issue. You can tell these guys loved their creation, and really want to see it run well. I really hope it does well for that alone.
Should you play this? I think so. especially if your into comics, mafia action flicks loaded with boobs and booze , puzzlers, or just wonderful art.I think you should really give it a go when it releases.
Pros: Beautiful Art style
Really cool soundtrack and voice acting
Great story, with many of different directions
Challenging Puzzles
Cool Characters and Villains
Cons: Freezes some,I'd bet it's fixed by release or shortly after.
Overall: 8.1 If your looking for something totally different, something action packed and Manly loaded with stuff like drugs, guns, and sex then you'll find it here. If your looking for your regular bland puzzler that has no story, and gets repetitive this certainly isn't it.
