Cat Quest 2 is a fast paced open world RPG that can be played solo or Coop. You control a Cat and a Dog while you try to bring peace between the cats of Felingard and the dogs of the Lupus Empire. There is so much fun to be had on this 12 to 15 hour adventure. I really recommend this game if your looking to play something with a friend, wife, girlfriend, son, or daughter. I haven't had this much fun with a Coop game since probably Castle Crashers. I really hold Cat Quest 2 that type of quality. Even if you don't have any of those things, and your a loner like myself don't worry the whole game can be played solo as well. You can control both animals and it isn't any less fun or adventurous alone. My first play through was done completely alone. It took me around 15 hours to 100% it, and it never once felt repetitive like these games some times do. The side quests are actually fun and so is trying to complete all the dungeons. The money you earn, XP, and loot makes it all worthwhile. I really had fun from start to finish.
I love the choice between melee and magic attacks. I chose to give my cat magic and my dog melee. You can do it how ever you want though. You can choose rather they use a wand for magic that will cast lightning, fire, ice, etc and then you can match up your armor with this class. The armor will increase the elemental damage, the armor, the health, the magic, or the physical attack. The choice is all yours,.With my cat I went full magic boost and attacked from a distance, boosted partners attack, and healed. While the Dog attacked with really heavy armor protection. This was my plan, but the fun is you can do it how ever you want. In Coop you can both choose what ever you want as well. You can level up your magic, armor, and weapons pretty easy by visiting blacksmiths. Money is pretty easy to come by so you will have no problem making your favorite weapon over powered if you choose to. You will find more weapons and armor as you go though that might make you think of trying something new as well. The Loot is a plenty in Cat Quest 2.
You will find all this loot in dungeons which you must clear out. To 100% them you must defeat every enemy and find every chest. This is hard sometimes cause they hide them well or the dungeons get huge and are loaded with traps. Spikes and projectiles firing at you can make it hard to defeat the enemies that surround you. There are a ton of these dungeons as well. So it's going to keep you busy for some time. The side quests and dungeons really add a lot of extra game play to Cat Quest 2. Also trying to find them all, and the different magics. Some are pretty well hidden, but once you unlock all the warp zones and ability to walk on water everything becomes much easier to find.
I love the look and sound of Cat Quest 2. It feels really retro like this would have been a instant classic on the SNES or Genesis. The art style , adorable characters, beautiful music, and really amazing writing certainly would have had this on a lot of people's lists for favorite retro games. I hope it is loved just as well today though. It deserves a lot of praise and to be noticed. I think they probably will though I've seen ads for it about every where I've gone online today.I think it is the best RPG this year easy. I think it might be the best coop game this Gen as well. I think it will appeal to all ages and player types. The fast paced action, quality development, and hysterical cat puns really make this a game that could receive some Game of the Year nods. They do deserve those no doubt. I'm already ready for Cat Quest 3. I hope a lot of you feel the same. Let us know in the comments. Love to hear other opinions on it.
