Hyper Sentinel reminds me a lot of a game I loved on the NES called Star Force, but I have heard it's more based on a game from 1986 called Uridium. I haven't played that yet, but you know me I will be as soon as I get a little break from reviews. Love playing classic stuff I missed out on. I heard some where this was a kickstarter that didn't meet it's goals. I'm glad it still got a release though because i really enjoyed it. Has really addictive fast paced 60fps game play. Enemies, lasers, and missiles coming from every direction. It gets really chaotic especially the further you advance. The ships get bigger, the enemies multiply, and the ground obstacles increase or fire back. It really tests you like old school games did. You have a health bar, and when in danger you have to pick up a health drop or move around until it recharges. There are a ton of weapon drops as well. Lasers, Shields, Bullets that fire out the back of the ship, and many more.

There are also different game modes. There are 3 modes Boss, Arcade, and Survival. In Boss you just make your way through the many bosses without clearing out the ground obstacles first. Survival you just try to stay alive as long as possible as waves and waves of enemies spawn around you. It gets tougher as the time advances. When you die your time is added to the leader boards. Like old school arcades, and classic console games the leader boards are your primary goal. You want to be the top guy on there especially above your friends that own the game as well. The other mode is arcade where you have to complete 12 levels of ground forces then fight the areas boss. If you die you can pick up where you left off level wise , but have to start that level completely over with all the ground forces refreshed. There are also medals to unlock by completing goals for each level. Each level has 5 unique medals to unlock by doing certain things . It adds replay value to the game especially for people who like to 100% their games, or collect achievements.

I enjoyed so much about this game. I loved the retro colorful look. The different visual choices. The music really fit into the total package well, and really helped it capture that classic look and feel. I was just hooked trying to capture all the medals, and make my way up the leader boards. IS it for you though? I will admit it might not be for every one. Lot of people aren't really into the retro games, or they just aren't into the modern retro clones. If that is you it probably isn't your cup of tea. If you grew up on those classics, or are some one who loves to learn about gaming history , and play those old games. I could see you loving this one like I did. If that is you and you grab it let us know what you thought of it in the comments. If it looks interesting grab it below to let them know you saw it here first.

Pros: Retro feel and sound really captured
Tons of replay value
Challenging game play
Spot on controls.

Cons: Wish there was a few more levels

Overall: 7.2 Hyper Sentinel does a amazing job of emulating the classic space shoot em ups. If you loved the sound of the arcade or the feel of of the classic console hyper Sentinel will certainly take you back there.
